Unite's response to the novel coronavirus

March 27, 2020

Dear friends of Unite,

On behalf of our Unite family in Tanzania and here in America, I send you prayers for health and safety during these unprecedented times. Together we UNITE in the fight against one powerful and invisible common enemy — the novel coronavirus. We WILL prevail, in time, but the losses and suffering that we are facing — now and over the weeks, months and perhaps years to come — are staggering.

I want to thank each and every one of you for all of your love and support of Unite over the years. Together we have made so many miracles possible through the provision of education, mentorship, water, power, business grants and loans, health care, love, friendship and so much more. Please know that to support our Unite Scholars, widow women enrolled in our Mjane Jasiri (Brave Widow) Program and teammates across Tanzania, we have provided Covid-19 relief packages (which include hand sanitizer, liquid soaps, rice, maize, cooking oil, honey and sugar, paracetamol, and more). We have also provided small-business interest-free loans to help them navigate these uncertain times by finding new and creative ways to feed themselves and their families. We are also providing health insurance for our teammates, A-Level scholars and Widow Women.

And for you — our beloved friends and supporters — we also have a gift to offer… Messages of love, hope, connection and faith as we all do our best to navigate this global pandemic. Our students, widow women, teammates, friends and extended family in Africa (as well all us here in America who want to participate) will be making short “selfie” videos that I will send to you via text, email and through social media. If you too would like to submit a video to share your love and support with our extended Unite family around the world, KARIBU SANA. You are most welcome. Click HERE to see my short video. You can email me your video at anne@uniteafricafoundation.org.

Please let me know how we can be of service to you. I would love to have a call (or zoom face-to-face) to connect and see/hear how you are. And I can also link you directly with any individual student and/or Unite team member in Tanzania if there is someone with whom you would like to build a more personal connection. We can have calls, write letters, create personalized messages, sing songs, pray…. to help you and your family through these challenging and uncertain times. And for those of you who live within a few hours of Fairfield County, I am more than happy to pick up and deliver groceries or any supplies you may need. Just let me know. 314.239.3997.

It is my hope and prayer that through Covid-19 we will somehow birth a new, more caring, humane, equitable, responsible, just and compassionate world. Together, all things are possible.

Yours always in service,
