CT-BASED RUNNIN’ REBELS’ SPORTS LEAGUE LAUNCHES SNEAKER DRIVE FOR UNITE

Coach Mike Harris, founder & director of the CT-based Runnin Rebels AAU Basketball program, is launching a sneaker-collection drive to provide the orphans and impoverished youth supported by Unite’s many programs across in Tanzania with proper footwear for walking, running and playing football (soccer) & basketball.

The Runnin Rebels’ motto: DECIDE. COMMIT. ACT. SUCCEED. REPEAT.

We hope everyone will be inspired to respond to this call to action by either donating new and/or slightly used sneakers of any size OR by making a tax-deductible donation HERE to assist with the cost of shipping, which is ~$400 a barrel (200 lbs each). Once the sneakers are gathered in CT (drop off site is Greens Farms Academy in Westport, CT), we will ship them to Tanzania in barrels on a container ship in partnership with Amefricargo Express.

Unite is working with hundreds of children across Tanzania who are living in extreme poverty and in dire need of all kinds of assistance. Proper sneakers will not only provide their bodies much needed support and relief during their long days spent walking and working, but they will also allow the children the opportunity to play in sports leagues (which require that they arrive wearing appropriate footwear).

For more information or to arrange a pick up of sneakers, contact Coach Mike Harris at runrebelsrun15@gmail.com or Anne Wells at anne@uniteafricafoundation.org.
